Flu Season Office Cleaning: What Valley Businesses Should Expect

By Joey Lambert October 28, 2026 Business Services 5 min read

Every Valley office has the same calendar: school starts in August, the first office cold shows up in October, and somewhere between Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl half the front desk is out at once. You can't stop flu season. But there's a real difference between an office that gets wiped down and an office that gets disinfected, and this is the time of year that difference shows up in your sick-day totals.

Cleaning and disinfecting are not the same job

Cleaning removes soil - dust, crumbs, smudges, the visible stuff. Disinfecting kills the germs that stay behind after a surface looks clean, and it only works when it's done deliberately: the right product, applied to the right surfaces, left wet long enough to actually work. That last part is called dwell time, and it's the step that gets skipped when cleaning is rushed. A spray-and-immediately-wipe pass looks like disinfecting but mostly isn't.

The touchpoints that actually spread illness

Illness doesn't spread evenly across an office. It concentrates on the surfaces dozens of hands touch every day:

  • Door handles and push plates, especially entrances and restrooms
  • The shared kitchen: refrigerator handle, microwave buttons, coffee pot, faucet
  • Conference room tables and shared phones
  • Light switches, copier buttons, and shared keyboards
  • Restroom fixtures, dispensers, and stall latches

A cleaning routine that vacuums the floors and empties the trash but skips these is missing the surfaces that matter most from October through February.

What we change during flu season

Our commercial cleaning teams work from a defined touchpoint list, and during flu season those high-touch surfaces get disinfected on every visit, with products given their full dwell time. We covered what we do on regular office visits in our office cleaning post this fall - flu season is that same system with the disinfection turned up where it counts. And because our cleaners are direct Lambert employees, the same trained people handle your office every visit. They know which conference room hosts the Monday meeting and which door everyone actually uses.

Medical offices are a different standard

For clinics, dental practices, and other medical spaces in the Valley, this isn't seasonal - it's the baseline. Medical cleaning means exam rooms and waiting areas handled with the right products and protocols year-round, because the people in those waiting rooms are exactly the people who can least afford to pick something up there. If you manage a medical space and your current cleaning looks the same as any office's, that's worth a conversation.

The math on this is not complicated

One employee out sick for three days costs more than a month of doing this right. Nobody can promise you a flu-free office, and we won't. What proper disinfection does is take the office itself out of the equation, so a cold that walks in the door has a much harder time making the rounds.

If your business could use a cleaning partner that treats flu season like the different job it is, request a quote and tell us about your space. We'll walk it with you and put together a plan before the sneezing starts.
