Area Rug Cleaning in Staunton, VA
In-home and drop-off area rug cleaning for Staunton homes, sized to the antique wools, orientals, and modern synthetics we see across the historic district.
Area & Oriental Rug Cleaning in Staunton, the Lambert way
Area rug cleaning in Staunton breaks into two tracks. In-home work is right for rugs that are furniture-heavy, that live under a heavy piece we do not want to move twice, or that are not durable enough to travel rolled. Drop-off work at our Beverley Street shop is right for rugs that want submersion washing, rinse cycles, and controlled drying you cannot do in the living room. We decide which track fits during the walkthrough.
Fiber and construction drive method. Hand-knotted wool orientals (the real ones, not machine-woven copies) need cold-water rinsing, neutral-pH detergent, and a controlled dry because heat will set dyes that were meant to be held in place by pH and time. Machine-woven wool blends accept warmer water and more agitation. Silk, viscose, and rayon rugs are their own category and we are honest about what cleaning does and does not do to them.
Before the work, a dye test
Every rug we clean gets dye-tested before a drop of solution touches it. A lot of older orientals in Staunton homes were made when synthetic and natural dyes coexisted in the same rug, and the synthetics sometimes bleed while the naturals stay put. If we see bleed during the test, we adjust to a method that will not pull the color out, or we tell you the rug is not a candidate for full cleaning and recommend a specialist wash house for that piece.
The crew handling your rug is on Lambert's payroll, trained by us on every fiber type, and carrying insurance that covers the value of the rug. Nothing leaves the shop without a lead's sign-off. Solutions, drying frames, and handling equipment are all ours.

Common questions about area & oriental rug cleaning in Staunton
Can you wash an oriental rug at my Staunton home or does it have to come to the shop?
Smaller orientals in stable condition can be cleaned in place with low-moisture methods. Larger rugs, rugs with heavy soil, rugs with pet accidents that set below the pile, and antique pieces that would benefit from a submersion wash go to our Beverley Street shop. On the walkthrough we will flag which track suits your particular rug, give a price for each, and pick up and deliver if drop-off is the right move.
How do you handle antique orientals that may have mixed natural and synthetic dyes?
We dye-test every antique rug in a hidden corner before cleaning begins. The test tells us which colors are stable, which are marginal, and whether the whole rug can take a wash at all. If we see any bleed on the test, we adjust the method to something safer (cold rinse, lower agitation, faster dry) or tell you up front that a specialty wash house is the better home for that particular rug. We would rather lose a job than damage a piece that has been in your family.
Do you pick up my rug and take it somewhere?
No - we clean your rugs in place, in your home. Your rug never leaves. That's a practical difference from a lot of rug cleaners who require a drop-off and a wait.
How long does it take?
An average 8x10 or 9x12 area rug takes about 30 to 60 minutes depending on the fiber and the condition. Multiple rugs in the same visit scale efficiently because we're already set up.
How long until the rug is dry?
Usually 2 to 4 hours, similar to our carpet cleaning. You can usually walk on it the same afternoon.
Can you clean wool rugs?
Most modern wool rugs and wool blends, yes. For very fine antique wool Orientals or hand-knotted pieces in delicate condition, we may recommend a specialty rug cleaner that uses a different process. We'll talk through your specific rug when you book.
